Over the decades, I have had the opportunity to perform eye surgery at 5 hospitals, including The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, and at several different surgicenters throughout the 5 boroughs of NYC. Over the past few years, I, along with most of my fellow ophthalmologists, have moved the vast majority of my surgical workload out of the hospital and into the surgicenter. The hospitals simply cannot match the surgicenters in efficiency and comfort for patient and surgeon alike. I began operating at QSC in Flushing, Queens soon after they opened their doors. Like all new surgicenters, there were issues in terms of staffing and equipment. These issues are now well behind them, and I find that QSC is the best surgicenter in which to perform my surgeries. The O.R. techs are highly experienced, knowledgeable, and eager to help. The front desk, pre-op, and post-op areas are staffed with well-trained personnel. Every patient has some level of apprehension when they arrive for eye surgery. But the staff always puts their mind at ease. Most of my patients relate to me the incredible empathy they felt at the center – more so than at any other center I have operated in. The administration listens to the surgeons and keeps the center up to date with the latest equipment. Simply put, operating at QSC maximizes my surgical abilities.
