Liwu (Grace) Chen, MD, is a respected cornea specialist and ophthalmologist with a wealth of experience in both the clinical and educational sectors of her field. She is currently working at Liwu Chen MD PC in Elmhurst, NY, and is an Associate Attending Surgeon at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai.

Dr. Chen’s medical journey began at Cornell University, where she graduated with a B.S. in Biology. She then earned her Medical Doctorate from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Following her studies, she completed a preliminary medicine internship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and an ophthalmology residency at New York University School of Medicine/Manhattan Eye Ear Throat Hospital. Subsequently, she pursued a fellowship in cornea and external diseases at The Wills Eye Hospital.

Dr. Chen’s career has seen her hold various prestigious positions, including Clinical Instructor/Medical Staff in Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals and Tissue Bank Compliance Officer for the New York State Department of Health. Her clinical prowess is backed by her extensive research contributions, which she has presented at various medical conferences and published in respected medical journals.

Dr. Chen’s commitment to her profession is reflected in her membership in professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Board of Ophthalmology, Chinese American Medical Society, and Coalition of Asian-American IPA. She is a certified ophthalmologist by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has additional certifications in Femtosecond laser, Avedro Collagen Crosslinking, VISX laser, and Endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation.

In addition to her professional achievements, Dr. Chen is fluent in Mandarin and enjoys floral arrangements, cooking, and photography in her spare time. Her dedication to patient care and her broad spectrum of expertise make her an invaluable asset in the field of ophthalmology.
